Reminder - T.L.C. your vehicle(s)

Larcenies from Auto are typically a “crime of opportunity” meaning the bad guy / girl will steal valuables from your car when YOU LEAVE IT UNLOCKED.  So to help reduce this opportunity and reduce your chances of becoming a victim of this type of crime is actually very simple –

Practice T. L. C.

Take Out Valuables
If you can leave your valuables at home, do it. Otherwise, when you get to your destination, take your valuables with you. If you have to leave them in your automobile, put them in your trunk before you get to your destination. This includes firearms! Please do not leave a firearm in your vehicle unsecured!

Lock Your Vehicle
Enough said!

Close Doors and Windows
An open door or window allows a thief a quick and quiet way to enter your automobile. Take the time to make sure you closed everything.

Also, if you are a victim of this type of crime, please report it to the Police.  You can use the online reporting option (see attached pamphlet) or call the non-emergency # if it’s a past occurrence at 703-792-6500.

Firework safety tips from pwc dept of fire and rescue

SAFETY TIPS - COURTESY OF THE PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF FIRE AND RESCUE:

Even legal fireworks can be dangerous. Take special precautions to celebrate safely on the Fourth of July. Here are some helpful tips:
Ø  Fireworks should only be used under adult supervision.
Ø  Fireworks should only be used outdoors on a driveway sidewalk or other fire-resistant surface. Remember fires are caused by careless handling of fireworks in areas exposed to sparks or live fireworks.
Ø  Never ignite fireworks during high winds where flying sparks can start a fire.
Ø  Keep a bucket of water handy in case sparks start a fire.
Ø  Be sure children around fireworks know to stop drop and roll if their clothing catches on fire.
Ø  Deposit sparklers in a metal container as they may be stepped on while hot or lost in the grass and stepped on while playing.
Ø  Never aim or throw fireworks at another person.
Ø  Never try to re-ignite fireworks that malfunction or fail to go off.
Ø  Do not wear loose clothing when using fireworks.
Ø  Never experiment or make your own fireworks.
Ø  Never carry fireworks in your pocket.

The safest way to prevent fireworks-related injuries or worse is to leave fireworks displays to the professionals.

REMEMBER

Misuse of fireworks causing death injury or property loss shall incur civil or criminal liability. Our goals are public safety and voluntary compliance of the law.  Help us protect you and your loved ones:
·         Surrender illegal fireworks voluntarily when requested by authorities.
·         Argument may lead to issuing a summons to court and confiscation of illegal fireworks.
·         Refusal to comply will result in a custodial arrest and confiscation of the contraband.

For more information about selecting and using legal fireworks or if you would like to safely dispose of illegal fireworks contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at 703-792-6360 or visit our website at www.pwcgov.org/fire and click on Fireworks. Turning in illegal fireworks will not result in any fines or summons and no questions will be asked.
